GST Calculator

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is charged on the supply of most goods and services in India. If you sell something, you add GST to your price. If you are given a price that already includes GST, you may need to work backwards to find the price without tax and the amount of tax in it.

Worked example

With the starting values below, the calculator gives the results in the second table.

Inputs
Amount₹1,000
GST rate18%
Mode (1 = add GST, 2 = remove GST)1
Results
Total amount₹1,180.00
Amount without GST₹1,000.00
GST₹180.00
CGST + SGST (each)₹90.00

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the amount.
  2. Enter the GST rate that applies to your goods or service.
  3. In the mode box type 1 to add GST to the amount, or 2 to remove GST from an amount that already includes it.
  4. Read the total, the amount without GST, the GST and the CGST + SGST split.

Formula

Add GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100, total = amount + GST
Remove GST: amount without GST = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100), GST = total − amount without GST
CGST = SGST = GST ÷ 2 (supplies within one state)

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST on a price?

Multiply the price by the GST rate and divide by 100 to get the GST. Add it to the price to get the total. For example, GST at 18% on 1,000 is 180, and the total is 1,180.

How do I remove GST from a GST-inclusive price?

Divide the total by (1 + rate ÷ 100). For a total of 1,180 at 18%, the price without GST is 1,000 and the GST is 180.

What are CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within one state, GST is split equally between the Central government (CGST) and the State government (SGST). For a sale from one state to another, the whole amount is collected as IGST.

Which GST rate should I use?

Use the rate that applies to your goods or service under the current GST notifications. Check the GST portal or ask a tax professional if you are unsure.
